Geometric and combinatorial properties of well-centered triangulations in three and higher dimensions

چکیده
An n-simplex is said to be n-well-centered if its circumcenter lies in its interior. We introduce several other geometric conditions and an algebraic condition that can be used to determine whether a simplex is n-well-centered. These conditions, together with some other observations, are used to describe restrictions on the local combinatorial structure of simplicial meshes in which every simplex is well-centered. In particular, it is shown that in a 3-well-centered (2well-centered) tetrahedral mesh there are at least 7 (9) edges incident to each interior vertex, and these bounds are sharp. Moreover, it is shown that, in stark contrast to the 2-dimensional analog, where there are exactly two vertex links that prevent a well-centered triangle mesh in R, there are infinitely many vertex links that prohibit a well-centered tetrahedral mesh in R.

General-Dimensional Constrained Delaunay and Constrained Regular Triangulations, I: Combinatorial Properties
Two-dimensional constrained Delaunay triangulations are geometric structures that are popular for interpolation and mesh generation because they respect the shapes of user-specified domains, they have “nicely shaped” triangles that optimize several criteria, and they are easy to construct and update. The present work generalizes constrained Delaunay triangulations (CDTs) to higher dimensions, a...
متن کاملConstrained Delaunay Triangulations and Algorithms
Two-dimensional constrained Delaunay triangulations (of a planar straight-linegraph) introduced independently by Lee et al. [2] and Chew [1] are well studied struc-tures and can be constructed in optimal time. However, the generalization of suchobjects to three and higher dimensions is much less discussed in literature. In this talk, we first define a constrained Delaunay tri...
متن کاملWell-Centered Triangulation
Meshes composed of well-centered simplices have nice orthogonal dual meshes (the dual Voronoi diagram). This is useful for certain numerical algorithms that prefer such primal-dual mesh pairs. We prove that well-centered meshes also have optimality properties and relationships to Delaunay and minmax angle triangulations. We present an iterative algorithm that seeks to transform a given triangul...
متن کاملA combinatorial Yamabe flow in three dimensions
A combinatorial version of Yamabe flow is presented based on Euclidean triangulations coming from sphere packings. The evolution of curvature is then derived and shown to satisfy a heat equation. The Laplacian in the heat equation is shown to be a geometric analogue of the Laplacian of Riemannian geometry, although the maximum principle need not hold. It is then shown that if the flow is nonsin...
متن کاملCombinatorics of Triangulations Title: Associate Professor of Information Science
Several combinatorial aspects of triangulations and their generalizations are studied in this thesis. A triangulation of a point con guration and a d-dimensional polyhedron whose vertices are among the points is a decomposition of the polyhedron using d-simplices with vertices among the points. The two main elds triangulations appear are combinatorial geometry in mathematics and computational g...
